Compliance and Investigation
Many compliance cases are opened randomly, can be complex to resolve and occur for a host of reasons, including:
- Tax avoidance loan schemes
- Incorrect pay and/or tax figures
- Incorrect expenses figures
- High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC)
We have lengthy experience in dealing with a variety of HMRC compliance (investigation) cases with a dedicated service available. We assign all cases to an on-site compliance manager who will ensure that the best possible outcome is reached under the specific circumstances of any case.
How we can help
Tax avoidance Loan Schemes
Tax avoidance loan schemes or disguised remuneration schemes are used to avoid paying tax on your income. If you’ve participated in one and are now being investigated by HMRC, we can help.
High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC)
Hundreds of thousands of families up and down the country have fallen foul of HMRC’s High Income Child Benefit Charge which is calculated on a case by case basis. The amount repayable to HMRC can range from just a few pounds to the full amount your family received. If you’ve had a HICBC case opened against you by HMRC, we can help.
Incorrect or unsubstantiated expenses
HMRC randomly open expenses based investigations into claims on a daily basis. The common misconception is that there are fixed parameters to avoid one but that’s simply not true. Claims can be dramatically different, yet the consequences equally severe. If you’re being investigated and HMRC are asking you to substantiate your expenses, we can help.
Incorrect pay and/or tax figures
It’s fairly common for incorrect pay and tax figures to be submitted to HMRC, on some occasions they’ll have been provided by HMRC themselves. There are a number of reasons why your figures can be incorrect but even the simplest of errors can have severe consequences. Even if HMRC don’t pick them up immediately, they’ll always be spotted eventually. If you have a figures check investigation opened against you by HMRC, we can help.
