High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC)
Any household which receives Child Benefit where the claimant or their partner’s income is £50,000 or above has been subject to a High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) since 7th January 2013.
Hundreds of thousands of families up and down the country have fallen foul of HMRC’s High income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC). It is calculated on a case by case basis and the amount repayable to HMRC can range from just a few pounds to the full amount your family received depending on your income.
Everybody’s circumstances are different, but we’ll know the best way to deal with yours. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss your case and determine the best course of action, whether that be completing a Self-Assessment tax return to reduce the amount due back to HMRC, or simply giving you free advice so you can manage it yourself if there’s no chance to reduce your liability.
What to expect
How can Bettertax help?
Completing a Self-Assessment tax return with Bettertax will mean that your liability will be accurately assessed and in most cases, significantly reduced, allowing more of the money originally claimed to remain with you and your family.
In a lot of cases we’ve not only been able to clear the HICBC, we’ve actually managed to achieve a refund too.
What are your fees?
Fees for Self-Assessment tax returns which result in refunds will run in line those set out for PAYE employees and CIS Sub-contractors. Those that don’t or are completed for a sole trader will be charged at £199.99. All fees are subject to VAT.
