Celebrating the Armed Forces

With this being a year of many military anniversaries, not least the 75th anniversary of The Battle of Britain and the 70th anniversary of the ending of World War 2, we at Bettertax wanted to celebrate our amazing Armed Forces.

For some time there has been confusion regarding the eligibility of MoD employees. However, it has been confirmed by HMRC and the MoD that certain working expenses are indeed due tax refunds.

Whilst the rules are still complex, sections 336 – 339 of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003, generally speaking, if you use your own vehicle to travel to your posted base from your main residence (the place you stay when on leave), and your posting is for a period of less than two years, those journeys can be offset against your tax.
