We figure that you're here because you've either been recommended to us by a friend or colleague or that you simply believe you may be entitled to a tax refund and have gone online to actively seek assistance. Either way, we’d obviously love to hear from you and there’s three different ways you can get in touch...
You can give us a call on 01280 821020, which we'd always recommend as it gives us the opportunity to answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, you can use the request a call back tab in the top left hand corner or simply click on the ‘Get Started Now’ button at the bottom of every page.
If you work under the PAYE system but are incurring work based expenses for mileage, products or services you’re neither provided with or indeed reimbursed for by your company, you’re entitled to a tax refund. Just give us a call and one of our team will discuss your circumstances and let you know how we can help. Once this happens, we will organise for a registration pack to be sent out to you.
Just read through our terms & conditions, the ‘Authorise your agent’ 64-8 & the SA1 which enables you to obtain a UTR (Unique taxpayer reference). Once you’re happy, just sign and return them, using the self addressed envelope included.
Our staff would’ve gone through the contents of the pack and explained everything you'll need to do in order to get your tax refund process started, however, if you have any further questions at this point, please don’t hesitate to call us.
Once your application is returned us, you are registered as a Bettertax client immediately. However, we still need to wait for authorisation from HMRC to work with them, on your behalf and for your UTR number to be issued. We would send your application to HMRC the day we receive it and it generally takes between 8-10 weeks for authorisation to come through.
Not a lot in truth, you'll receive your issued self-assessment & UTR in the post but you don't have to take any action, simply give us a call and if you have P60’s for each tax year you want us to complete, we can get to work immediately. If not, don’t worry, we can request your employment history records from HMRC. This typically takes around three weeks to come through, but once we have this, we can get to work.
We’ll arrange an appointment for one of our tax advisors to go through your expenses with you, letting you know what you can and can't claim for, compiling & validating evidence to ensure that you get back the maximum tax refund you're legally entitled to.
Keeping accurate records with P45s & P60’s for each tax year will dramatically speed up your submission & tax refund turnaround time, so please try to look after them.
That you use a system that allows you to keep any earnings & tax records, receipts, bank statements and other expenses, safe & organised. A 12 slot system usually works best with a file or folder with a plastic wallet for each month of the year is usually best.
Once all required supporting documentation is in place, it takes up to 72 hours for us collate the information, complete your self-assessment and make the submission to HMRC. On completion of your tax return, we require sign off before submission and this will be sent either by email or post if necessary. As soon as we receive consent, your self-assessment or claim will be processed.
A typical submission to payout lifecycle is somewhere around 6-9 weeks but this is only an estimate and in some cases it will in fact come through a lot sooner, in others it can take a lot longer.
HMRC will send you a letter in the post detailing what your tax refund is. These receipts can be sent to you up to five weeks in advance of your tax rebate being released and will of course state the amount refunded before our fee and VAT. Remember that we don't get paid until you do, so we'll do everything in our power to ensure that the process is as smooth and as fast a possible.
We never hold on to any money, so the day your refund hits our client account, we will be in touch to take your bank details and transfer funds into your nominated account the very same day.
YES! Once you are a registered client of ours, we can assist you with completing your self assessment tax returns every year. As soon as you receive your P60, probably in May, you can call us to get started, if we haven't spoken to you already. If you have any changes in circumstances, do give us a call and let us know.
If you’re a PAYE professional who wants to claim back the tax on your expenses our fee is 25% of the refund received. This means that the completion of your tax return and processing of your claim is absolutely free. If we don’t get you a refund, you won’t pay a penny, so you can rest assured that we’ll do everything in our power to get you the best refund possible. Fee is subject to VAT.
We're always happy to receive calls on 01280 821020 and give best advice or we have "Tax Return Toolkit" brochures and leaflets to flip through!
